Part of the popular Evans EQ3 Series, this resonant head is compatible with 16 inch bass drums with a traditionally wide tension hoop. The sustain and tone of this 7.5 mil head balance perfectly with the EQ3-NP batter heads.

The Evans EQ Kick Drumhead

It can be a bit of a mission to find a 16 inch kick drumhead, simply because such small kicks are rare and the smallest heads you can find are usually 18 inchers. 16 inch kicks actually only came about because more and more drummers started to repurpose their floor tom, sticking it on its side to serve as a tight kick. The downside of using a floor tom lies in the tension hoop. Bass drums have a thick, wooden hoop, while floor toms have thin metal hoops. As such, Meinl have thoughtfully developed 16 inch kick drumheads that fit both. This 16 incher is compatible with the wider hoops of 16 inch kick drums.

Since this drumhead doesn't include a porthole, some restraint is required when playing because the smaller the shell gets, the higher the air pressure gets, so a 16 inch kick can't handle nearly the same amount of pressure as a 24 inch kick. Of course, this head could be customised with a porthole to reduce the pressure - a 4 inch port can make a massive difference to a 16 inch drumhead. Just bear in mind that if you go any bigger than 4 inches, you're likely to kill off the effect of the resonant head almost completely.
